DADAA’s Board says Yes to the Voice!
The DADAA Board strongly supports the Yes campaign in the upcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament Referendum.
We acknowledge Australian First Nations voices and support the self-determination of Australia’s First Nations people.
The Referendum for the Voice to Parliament builds on previous actions by Australia’s First Nations people calling for equity under the laws imposed upon them, both prior to and from the establishment of the Commonwealth in 1901.
A Yes vote is key to achieving reconciliation, justice, and equity for all Australians. It acknowledges the sovereignty of Australian First Nations people as the first Australians. It is an opportunity to build on the positive achievements by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to Close the Gap. It will bring accountability to Governments to address the exclusion, marginalisation, and disadvantage experienced by First Nations people, and move towards a future of equity and inclusion.
We believe that a strong, unified, and inclusive Australia can only be achieved by giving First Nations people a prominent voice, followed up with actions within Australia’s democratic processes.
