Outside the Box launches Fremantle’s newest exhibition space
Outside the Box, an exhibition of works by members of DADAA’s team, has launched Fremantle’s newest exhibition space in Woodsons Arcade.
The exhibition opening night was a great opportunity to celebrate this new art space in the heart of Fremantle. Envisioned by Project Manager and Fremantle local Ros de Souza, the passage linking Adelaide St to Cantonment Street is now an exhibition space for local talent to showcase their work and emerging artists to be discovered. Ros is also the driving force behind Street Gallery, a project which revitalises Fremantle’s empty shopfronts with artworks by local artists. For Ros, the motivation is simple: “Beauty begets beauty. Ugly grows uglier…. A motivator for me to transform Woodsons Arcade into a creative space for the community to enjoy”.
Ros partnered with CBC Fremantle, DADAA, John Curtin College of the Arts, The Studio School, and the City of Fremantle Library to bring new life to Woodsons arcade. Students from The Studio School will now run the space, using it as a platform to learn the basics of arts management.
Outside the Box celebrates the art practices of DADAA’s staff and arts workers.
