Tim Maley | Awesome Festival 2022 Artist in Residence
26th Sep 2022
As the 2022 AWESOME Festival Artist in residence, Tim will be creating and displaying artworks in the Studio Underground Foyer at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia. Tim’s work is inspired by his love of animals and nature.
Tim Maley is an established artist based in Perth’s northern suburbs who works out of DADAA’s Midland and Ellenbrook studios.
Tim has been working with DADAA since 2007, when he joined the Lost Generation Project, a six year arts and cultural project that engaged older people with intellectual disability living in supported accommodation to connect with their communities. This was Tim’s first introduction to digital art and multimedia and paved the way for future projects and participation.
In 2008 Tim won a Culture and the Arts Award from the Disability Arts Inclusion Initiatives. With this award Tim began a mentorship with Western Australian Artist Si Hummerston in partnership with the Mundaring Arts Centre, resulting in an exhibition at MAC in 2010.
In 2012 Tim participated in Mundaring Arts Centre’s Convergence project, as well as DADAA’s sTARTSPEAK Project. Tim was also selected to exhibit in HERE&NOW13 at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. During the development period for Here&Now13, Tim began working informally with the WA Museum to draw and paint some specimens from their natural history collection.
In 2014 Tim exhibited works at Alcaston Gallery in Victoria in the From the Outside exhibition, as well as at the Goldfields Arts Centre in Kalgoorlie for the Beyond the Western Edge exhibition. Tim also exhibited 11 digitised works in the UK for the Small World exhibition. In 2020, Tim was an Arts for Autism Award Winner, presented at the Art Gallery of WA.
