City of Swan community
Collaboration is at the heart of this project, connecting artists with different generations and people within the City of Swan through sharing community stories and responding to them both visually and musically.
The project started with a multigenerational collaborative pottery workshop for clients experiencing Dementia who access the City of Swan’s Community Support Services in Beechboro, Guilford Grammar K12 students, and DADAA participants. Eight pottery tile workshops were held and while participants worked on their tiles their stories were collected via interviews. People shared stories about the things they like, their hopes and dreams, or reflections on fond memories. DADAA Midland arts worker, Shelley Elkins, facilitated each workshop and DADAA studio artist Lisa Holt captured the stories from the participants.
A sound design based on the audio will be used during an exhibition at Guilford Grammar on the 29th of November inside the chapel with several porcelain tiles.
A Midland Junction Art Centre (MJAC) artist in residence has also commenced with DADAA Arts worker Kristen Martin facilitating a workshop with DADAA studio artist Ann McGrath to develop a series of UV-activated artworks that respond to the interviews collected by Lisa Holt. The final part of the project, DADAA’s experimental music band The Definitives will use the audio to develop new music works.
The work generated from both the MJAC artist in residence and The Definitives will go towards our Unveiled exhibition at Ellenbrook Arts HQ next year in April.
This project builds on the work of the Interconnection project.
